Safe Driving is Smart Driving

Driving Safety Smart driving really comes down to making sure you always show the good sense and consideration you would like other drivers to show you.

Unfortunately, you could be the most attentive and courteous driver around and still become involved in an accident through no fault of your own (see Why You Need a Lawyer). It's been proven that you will reduce your risks by following these common sense suggestions.

    NEVER
  • Drive without adequate insurance
  • Drive after drinking alcohol
  • Insist on taking the right-of-way
  • Assume that you know what another driver will do
    ALWAYS
  • Make sure you and your passengers wear seat belts
  • Put any child under age 5 or who weighs under 40 pounds into a special safety seat. Be sure to follow the directions for your seat.
  • Drive defensively...expect the unexpected...keep your eyes moving
  • Avoid last-minute moves...be alert for potential hazards and road signs
  • Check you rearview mirror frequently
  • Keep a safe distance behind the next vehicle...don't tailgate
  • Use turn signals when changing lanes, even if you don't see another car
  • Pass others with care
  • Leave yourself a way out
  • Observe speed limits and traffic signals
  • Avoid distractions...watch for changing traffic conditions and keep you eyes on the road
  • Stay calm...it's never smart to lose your temper just because others lose their temper
  • Treat other drivers the way you'd like to be treated
